Best summed up by my mother as,"The Official IRA kept control on the Provos and British Army for you in the South and continued to do so after you left by dealing with the people they were extorting from and the Provisionals and British Army kept a tight grip on the people the Official IRA were extorting from in the North before you left because it is people who are being extorted from or rampantly exploited who do favours for other people such as hitting their principals' enemies with knuckle-dusters or attacking them with cut-throat razors ..."
