In 1981-2 after I had approached the IRA with a view to volunteering-an attempt was made to divert me into Sinn Fein -I proposed that we try to locate weapons from Belgium for IRA use.
I knew that the retreating German Army had left stocks of weapons in parts of Europe sympathetic to the German cause to encourage guerrilla warfare against the Allies. Therefore,I proposed that the IRA go to the Vlaamse Blok and seek assistance with the sale or gift of guns for our use.
By 1982,July,stocks of German cartridge-loading rifles had been transferred to the IRA. I knew that my suggestion had been acted on because I trained with one in Donegal when I was sent there for political indoctrination, most of which was interesting but pathetic.
I suggested that the approach to the Vlaamse Blok be made by Kieran Nugent and Owen Carton.
The stores left behind by retreating German troops contained to the best of my memory,500 G-34 rifles and ammunition.
My instructions were to the effect that we convince the Vlaamse Blok that we were on the right-wing of the political spectrum.
