I learned well in Dublin that republicanism is the creed of the shopkeeper,the tradesman and the publican and by extension,the doleman,the cornerboy and cutthroat.
That was said privately by those who referred to the 'black mafia' and those attracted to Dublin Provo-ism,and my father also remarked,
"The people you're mixing with are only cum,make no mistake about that and they always will be....some ol' bitch's leavings...the Northerners have some sense,they will send somebody down to deal with O Brien and Cahill. You have your only friend in Sinn Fein to thank for that,so whatever you do or say,vote for Michelle Gildernew because he's very close to her and she backs him to take a seat in Stormont but it won't be in my lifetime. Show him a bit of gratitude by voting for him when he stands for election. He's the only one of them who reads what you send him but he doesn't understand most of it. He thinks you are very intelligent but doesn't rate you as an IRA man."
