...I wonder in amazement at myself sometimes regarding my brazen audacity of the 1980's.
One thing was as clear then as it is now-there could be no compromise with Thatcher.
When I look at the dog-ends of society recruited by the IRA to fight the English, full of cheap Dublin pisswater and nationalist venom,I ask myself why I took such risks with my life and sowed such discord in my family. The answer is as all those who become involved in armed groups realise, youthful naivete.
One thing the police got right was that those people would do anything for money. Behind drunken Dublin bards, nestled vipers and corner-boys,the sweepings of the gutter. I am thinking, today, of Joe Mallon who raped Mairead Mc Conville before he had her killed.
Knowing these things would enlighten a generation as to what they are actually voting for when they vote Sinn Fein or endorse street-crawlers and door-bangers. A knowledgeable Provo is a disenchanted Provo such as myself.
